Hello, friends! My name is Janet Wells, and I am an independent sales consultant for several publishers, most of which are sole source. I live in the Austin area, but my Central Texas service area extends as far west as New Mexico, and as far east as Louisiana!
I have been working in the educational field for the past 16 years. Before working in the publishing business, I was an ESL teacher and K-1 teacher. I received my bilingual and ESL certificates from Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, and later in the state of Texas. After teaching in Guam for 5 years, I returned to my home state, and taught in several school settings. I have always been intrigued by the educational publishing field, so first started working on a per diem basis on state adoption curriculum for Harcourt School Publishers. After teaching again for another two years, I took a leap of faith in the publishing business again....first as a per diem for Bruce Warren of Rigby/Steck Vaughn, then for Carol Casper of Benchmark Education. Then, I became an independent sales representative, now representing Abrams Learning Trends, Okapi Educational Publishing, Child Safety Solutions, and Crabtree Classroom. I love getting out there and meeting my fellow educators, and hopefully will be able to meet your needs with my resources. My teaching experiences have certainly been an asset to this position!
I have two sons~ both drummers. Chris graduated from St. Edward's University with a degree in Business Administration, Dylan is currently in chef school at the Culinary Institute of America! They are both members of the theatrical percussion group, DrumJam. You can see some of their videos at www.drumjamaustin.com
By the way, if you know of any events for this dynamic young group, please let me know~
Chris also plays with Southbound Drive and Rattletree Marimba, two exceptional Austin-based groups.
I suppose music runs in their blood, as my family is quite musically inclined. My brother Jeff built his own business from scratch, a recording studio in Houston; see www.soundartsrecording.com and also had his own band. See: www.drjeffandthepainkillers.com
Likewise, my sister and brother-in-law own Emerald Entertainment, an entertainment booking agency; see www.mrald.com and also play in a well-known high-energy dance/ party band, Third Language.
My mother sang opera, and when asked to, will sing karaoke with one of her standbys, like "The Impossible Dream", or "Ave Maria". My father played trumpet, baritone, guitar and banjo, and built several string instruments as we were growing up!
OK, so I have to admit it....I have a side job as the clarinetist for Classical Rose Trio, consisting of a unique blend of flute, clarinet, and cello.
